FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Fort Worth Mayor Betsy price reaffirmed the city’s commitment to public safety on Wednesday after a recent rise in crime was highlighted during this week’s Presidential debate.

Debate Moderator Chris Wallace asked President Trump Tuesday night about the relationship between spikes in crime and political affiliation.

“There have been equivalent spikes in Republican led cities like Tulsa and Fort Worth,” said Wallace. “Is this really a party issue?”

The president said yes, but Mayor Price doesn’t believe disagreed.

“I do not see this as a partisan issue,” Price said. “As one life lost is one too many.”

Fort Worth has the fourth most murders of all Texas city’s this year.

“While I acknowledge Fort Worth’s homicide percentage increase is eye-catching, when looking at the raw data our numbers are lower than other major cities,” she said. “The unfortunate reality is crime has increased across the nation, and Fort Worth is not immune.”

Price insisted that despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, Fort Worth continues to prioritize public safety and has efforts underway including violent crime details and partnering with other law enforcement agencies.

On September 15, Price publicly requested an update on violent crime and measures taking place to reduce violence in the city.
