Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Division of Emergency Management will give an update on the state’s ongoing response to Tropical storm Marco and Hurricane Laura this afternoon from Austin.
Meantime, the City of Galveston issued a mandatory evacuation this morning, instructing all residents to begin leaving the island ahead of landfall from Laura.
Laura is expected to strengthen to a major Category 3 hurricane before making landfall between tomorrow night and Thursday morning, possibly on the Texas coast.
As evacuations and storm prep are underway along the Texas Gulf coast, Jen Myers with Oncor says crews will be at the ready to assist with power needs after the storm.
