McAllen (WBAP/KLIF) – Two police officers were shot and killed Saturday in the south Texas border town of McAllen by a suspect who later fatally shot himself . The officers were ambushed while responding to a domestic disturbance call. McAllen’s police chief says 45 year old officer Edelmiro Garza and fellow officer, 39 year old Ismael Chavez, first met with two people who reported assaults that took place inside a nearby home. They were fired upon from inside the home as they approached it. Officers Garza and Chavez were lying in front of the house, dead, when backup officers arrived. The Police Chief says the occupant of the house, who is believed to have shot the two officers, killed himself as the backup team confronted him.
