ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Major League Baseball is set to return! The MLB released a 60-game schedule, with opening day scheduled for July 23rd or 24th.
Texas Rangers Officials say they don’t have a lot of information if the games will have fans but they’re working under the current state guidelines, which allows up to 50% capacity at pro sports venues.
Jon Daniels, General Manager of the Texas Rangers said they’re doing some prep work and figuring out the logistics in terms of spacing out workouts and making sure players are social distancing. “I’m glad we get a chance to get out and play,” said Daniels. “I’ve been focused on protocols and everything we need to do, to do it safely,” he said.
The Rangers have until Sunday to submit the list of 60 players. Daniels said they have dual goals, to make sure no one in the group has to be hospitalized and to put themselves in a position to win the World Series. “They go hand in hand,” he said, “We will have a code of conduct with our players and staff, if anyone takes an unnecessary risk, they are putting the whole team at risk and putting our teams chances of winning at risk,” he said.
Daniels said the office has been open for a while so they have been able to practice being careful. “This is about minimizing risks and managing risks, not eliminating it,” he said. “I think everyone understands going into this that there are risks involved and it’s on all of us to take steps and look out for each other.”
He said with protocols and safety measures in place, if someone does get sick, it will not necessarily mean it will spread significantly through the group. “It’s going to take a lot of diligence on our part, like constantly reminding people to wear a mask or keep their distance,” he said.
Current season ticket holders will get first dibs on potential tickets and fans with individual tickets from past games can get refunds.
