Houston (WBAP/KLIF) – A Houston Police officer was killed early Saturday morning when his helicopter crashed. A second officer in the police helicopter with him was critically injured. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo says the helicopter crashed into an apartment complex around 2:00 a.m. while searching for a reported body in a nearby bayou. Acevedo says the two officers were trapped in the mangled wreckage for more than an hour while fire fighters worked in pools of aviation fuel to get them out. Houston Police don’t yet know why the helicopter crashed, but Chief Acevedo says they will treat it as a homicide until they’re sure what happened. There were no injuries to anyone on the ground at the apartment complex.
