DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The joy of their unexpected good fortune in the NFL draft was severely dampened for Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys with the shocking announcement that Prescott’s 31-year-old brother, Jace, had died Thursday morning.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones issued the following statement:

“We are so saddened that Dak has lost his brother. We want to help him get through this time. Whatever we can do to help him get through this tough time. When you’re young, and Dak is young, death is really hard to understand to think about or live with.”

An official team statement echoed those sentiments, adding, “At this incredibly difficult time, the Prescott family asks only for prayers and respect for their privacy.”

Jace was the middle of three Prescott brothers. He played offensive line for four years at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

As of Friday morning the cause of death had not been officially announced.
