Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Forth Worth ISD voted last night to team with the American Heart Association to strengthen the district’s anti-vaping policies, making it the largest school district in the nation to do so.
At the same time, the Fort Worth city council approved a resolution supporting the district.
During the school board meeting, 17-year old student Anna Carey talked about her mounting health problems after vaping since age 14.
After multiple trips to the hospital for chest pains and shortness of breath, she was finally diagnosed with chemical pneumonia two months ago; the diagnosis forced her to drop out of school to be home-schooled.
Forth Worth ISD continues the discussion later this morning with a live-streamed event later this morning.
Medical professionals, state officials and students are among panelists slated to discuss vaping effects, how to detect e-cigarette devices and usage and talk about the epidemic with teens, at an anti-vaping event at Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA on Terrell Circle South.
Panelists include: nationally-acclaimed toxicologist Dr. Peter Stout, Rep. Collier and FWISD student Anna Carey.
