UPDATE 6:35 PM – Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price texts a statement to a reporter on our News Team:
“Writing a statement like this is tragic and something that should never be necessary. A young woman has lost her life, leaving her family in unbelievable grief. All of Fort Worth must surround Atatiana Jefferson’s family with prayers, love and support. Chief Kraus and his command staff are acting with immediacy and transparency to conduct a complete and thorough investigation. More details are forthcoming and the Tarrant County District Attorney Law Enforcement Incident Team office will ultimately receive this case.” – Mayor Betsy Price, City of Fort Worth”

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Fort worth community wants answers after a woman was allegedly shot and killed inside her own home, early Saturday morning.
James Smith said he noticed the front door open at his neighbors house on East Allen Avenue in Fort Worth. Smith said he called a non-emergency number for police around 2:25 a.m., and asked for a welfare check. He said he was surprised to hear a gunshot a few minutes later.
According to police, an officer looked through a window and noticed someone standing inside. The officer perceived that person as a threat, fired one shot, and reportedly killed the homeowner. Smith said, “I don’t know what went on in that house, but I know she wasn’t a threat.”
Police said there was a gun inside the home. The victim, reportedly a black woman. The officer, reportedly a white man. Community pastors & activists, now demanding transparency from the Fort Worth Police Department. The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
