Typical Texas Heat Finally Sets Into North Texas

FORT WORTH – It’s been a few weeks delayed with constant cold and cool fronts moving into North Texas, bringing violent winds and torrential rainfall, but the terrible Texas heat is finally with us.   National Weather Service meteorologist Patricia Sanchez says though we’ve been feeling on and off heat index values in excess of 100F degrees, the excessive heat is likely to stay with us now with few, if any breaks.

Sanchez says the positive news is the excessive rain that also kept the hot temperatures at bay well past the official start of the summer season.  In May, Sanchez says the DFW and North Texas area received an average 3.25 inches of rain more than average, and in June, more than 4 inches above normal.  While that helps vegetation and animals, it does also cause humidity levels to rise in the air until the excess moisture has evaporated.

Look for heat values in excess of 100F degrees in this coming week across North Texas.
