DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A South Dallas car wash long considered a blight on the community will be shut down after a vote by the city’s Board of Adjustment.
Jim’s Car Wash, a 24-hour self-service business on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, has been called a “magnet for crime”. A 56-year-old woman was shot to death and four others injured at the car wash June 2.
The board gave car wash owner Dale Davenport until July 19 to shutter the business. Davenport plans to file an appeal, saying he needs 60 days to close and secure the business and that the process will cost him roughly $12,000.
WFAA reports two employees asked the board to allow the car wash to remain open, arguing that a lot of people hang out there and share information and gossip. Marshall Cornelius said it would help police figure out who shot and killed his wife, Sheila Sanders, who also worked at Jim’s Car Wash.
