Fort Worth Now 13th Largest City in U.S.

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- In terms of population, the City of Fort worth has grown to be the 13th largest city in the U.S.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau Fort Worth gained over 19,000 residents last year, climbing ahead of Columbus Ohio and San Francisco.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said the growth speaks to the city’s quality of life and affordable cost of living. “Real estate is not bad compared to other cities and there’s great jobs in all fields from technology to aviation, defense and manufacturing…it’s just got a really good feel,” said Price.

Chris Strayer Senior Vice President Business Attraction for the Chamber of Commerce said this is exciting news and great for the city’s economy, promoting job growth. “There is the opportunity for people to get new jobs and new careers but you also have people wanting to come because we are a thriving market,” Strayer said. “We have a very diverse economy and we hope that people will continue to look at us for future expansions and we hope existing businesses will continue to succeed,” said Strayer.

Price said that with growth also brings congestion and they will continue to ease that congestion. “We have been fortunate to stay ahead of it… it is an issue because people aren’t use to Fort Worth being this large and we will continue to work on that,” Price said.

Price said the city will continue to seek business opportunities and improve efforts within the school district. “We want to keep people engaged and active in the city when you get so big you tend to get isolated and that’s why Fort Worth is so special because people know there neighbors,” she said.
