Irving (WBAP/KLIF)- A last minute drive is underway to prevent Thursday night’s scheduled execution of the next-to-last member of the so-called “Texas 7.” Now 57 year old Patrick Murphy was one of a gang of escaped convicts who murdered Irving Police officer Aubrey Hawkins during a Christmas Eve robbery 18 years ago. Murphy’s attorneys say putting him to death would be unconstitutional because he wasn’t a major participant in the robbery, he was the gang’s lookout, and he didn’t actually shoot Hawkins.
