The NTTA Basically Says ‘No’ to a Proposed ‘No Toll’ Bill

(NTTA)

Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – The North Texas Tollway Authority says a bill filed by State Representative Matt Shaheen to get rid of tollways once they’re paid off is a bad idea.

House bill 463, proposes that a toll project becomes a part of the state highway system and the commission shall maintain the project without tolls when the costs of the project have been paid.

In a response to our media partner WFAA-TV, the agency referred to nearly $10-billion debt that’s accumulated during construction of new roadways built “at the request of the region.” Meantime the agency took in some $644-million dollars in fees last year.

The NTTA said, “We think House bill 436 is a bad idea because it would not account for maintenance, repair and improvement of those roads in the distant future.”
