Confederate Memorial Vandalized in Downtown Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The confederate memorial at Pioneer Park in Downtown Dallas was vandalized over the weekend.

The memorial was voted last week by the Dallas City Council to be removed. Monday morning it had been spray painted with red graffiti using derogatory language directed at President Trump. Dallas City Councilman Philip Kingston voted to have the memorial taken down but said Monday vandalism isn’t productive.

“It doesn’t advance anyone’s political view in a way that adults can respect,” said Kingston. “We don’t want any vandalism anywhere anytime no matter how offensive the statue is.”

The Dallas Police Department said Monday morning that the vandalism hadn’t been reported.

The memorial’s removal still needs approval by the Landmark Commission before it is taken down.
