Dallas, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Back in the news today, a pre-trial hearing for a Richardson man charged with capital murder in the death of his adopted 3-year old daughter last year.
Wesley Mathews initially reported his daughter Sherin missing on last October 7th, saying that he had made her stand outside their home because she refused to drink her milk.
Her body was found in a culvert on October 22. Officials say the child had died of “homicidal violence.”
Mathews is also facing of injury to a child and tampering with evidence. His wife, Sini Mathews, is facing child abandonment charges in connection with the case. Both have lost parental rights to their biological daughter.
Sherin’s death has sparked a kind of advocacy that brought two strangers together: Reena Bana and Shanna Poteet who created the Facebook page ‘Justice for Sherin’
They’ve been pushing for changes at the legislative level in what they hope to call “Sherin’s Law.” The law would also make it a felony for not reporting a missing child within a few hours.
#WesleyMathews returns to court this morning at 8:30 a.m. This is not a trial…just a preliminary hearing at this time. WHAT WE KNOW: https://t.co/f0hD5pfb9t #SherinMathews pic.twitter.com/Di21kixV85
