Grand Prairie (WBAP/KLIF) – Testimony will continue today in the capital murder trial of a man accused of beating to death the four-year-old daughter of his girlfriend two years ago.
Charles Phifer is accused of beating Leiliana Wright with a belt and bamboo stick.
Her mother, Jeri Quezada, testified yesterday that the day Leiliana died, she came home to do heroin with Phifer, who was caring for her daughter.
He told her after getting high that she was in the closet — Quezada says Leiliana spent her final hours with her hands tied with electrical wire and something wrapped around her stomach.
She also says Phifer threw her against the closet. In a plea deal last year Quezada admitted to the beating which triggered a lesser sentence than the original life sentenced she faced. As part of the deal, she agreed to testify against Phifer.
For his part, Phifer told WFAA-TV during a jailhouse interview that he was in a heroin induced stupor on the day in question, and that when he woke up, his girlfriend told him she needed help with the girl who had bruises all over her face.
