Rockwall Police Believe Fire was Set to Cover Up Murder-Suicide

ROCKWALL  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Rockwall police are calling the deaths of a husband and wife following an early-morning house fire suspicious.

The incident happened around 5:00 a.m. Monday at a house on White Water Lane near John King Road.

Firefighters arrived on scene and managed to extinguish the blaze and after entering the home, found the deceased couple and a 5-year-old child inside a car on the property.

Aaron McGrew is with Rockwall Police said fortunately, the child escaped unharmed.

“There quickly became a concern for a child that was known to live in the residence and the child was found safe inside a car and is apparently uninjured,” he said.

Police said that evidence at the scene indicated the fire was set to cover up a murder- suicide involving a husband and wife. Investigators believe the husband shot and killed the wife prior to setting a fire and then killed himself with a handgun.

“There’s clearly some foul play that occurred here. So, it’s being looked at as a possible murder suicide. The man and woman were married, said McGrew. “The child is a child they had together.”

The deceased victim is a 39-year-old female identified as Yoon Duk Kim and the suspect is a 42-year-old male identified as Hyun Seop Lee. The Rockwall Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and the Rockwall Fire Marshall’s office continue to investigate the incident.

Police said it will take a few days before the child is reunited with her next of kin because the family lives in South Korea.
