Garland ISD’s Coyle Middle School Mourns Student Shot by His Father in Murder-Suicide

Rowlett, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Garland Independent School Distr4ict will have grief counselors available today after the shooting death of Coyle Middle School student James Gonzales.

The 11-year old was killed by his father in an apparent murder-suicide late Saturday in their Rowlett home. The tragedy occurred amid marital problems between 41-year old Policarpo Gonzalez-Flores and his wife-the boy’s step-mother.

Gonzales-FLores reportedly called his ex-wife and told her that he had shot and killed his son, told her he was going to commit suicide, then turned the gun on himself.

Family and friends of the 11-year old held a prayer vigil for him last night at his outside his school. He was remembered as a ‘friendly, kind and caring’ young boy.

Garland ISD released the following statement following the tragedy:

“Our heartfelt sympathies are with this family and everyone at the campus who knew and loved this young student,” district officials said in a statement. “He and his family are in our thoughts and prayers as they and our school community mourn this terrible loss.”
