FORT WORTH, TX. (WBAP/KLIF News) – Ethan Couch, better known as the “Affluenza Teen”, was released from jail Monday morning.

Couch finished his two year sentence for violating the terms of his probation, related to the drunken driving crash in June of 2013 that killed four people. He was 16 at the time.

His attorney released a statement shortly before his release:

“We anticipate Ethan will be released from Tarrant County jail, today, after 27 months of continuous imprisonment. He will now serve the remaining six years of his period of community supervision under the terms and conditions imposed by the Court. From the beginning, Ethan has admitted his conduct, accepted responsibility for his actions, and felt true remorse for the terrible consequences of those actions. Now, nearly five years after this horrific event, Ethan does not wish to draw attention to himself and requests privacy so he must successfully completing his community supervision and going forward as a law-abiding citizen.”

Mothers Against Drunk Driving also put out a statement on Couch’s release:

“Two years in jail for four people killed is a grave injustice to the victims and their families who have been dealt life sentences because of one person’s devastating decision to drink and drive. The 720 days Ethan Couch served for his crimes shows that drunk driving homicides still aren’t treated as the violent crimes that they are. It’s small consolation that Ethan Couch will remain on probation, along with other court-imposed restrictions such as using an ignition interlock on his vehicle, but rest assured MADD will continue to monitor this case to honor the victims of this tragedy and their families.”

Couch will have to wear a GPS ankle monitor and will have to have a curfew of being in his home between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

His release today comes as his mother, Tonya Couch still sits in the the Tarrant County jail for violating the terms of her bond release.

She is awaiting trial for hindering the apprehension of a fugitive and money laundering related to taking Ethan to Mexico in 2015 after he violated his probation.
