DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – DART Police are investigating the death of an elderly woman whose body was found at a bus stop near S. Malcolm X Boulevard and Peabody Wednesday morning.
DART’s Morgan Lyons said that Dallas Fire-Rescue made contact with her after receiving several calls for a welfare check at that location.
Witnesses told investigators that they had interacted with her in the area over the past few days.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine her cause of death but DART Police do not suspect foul play. Her identity has not been released.
A man who found her told WFAA TV that it seemed as if she had “frozen to death.”
The area recently experienced record breaking temperatures, which hovered in the teens, overnight.
The cold may have claimed the life of another individual in the city.
Dallas Police said they found a person dead near a homeless encampment near Harwood and Martin Luther King Boulevard overnight.
Homeless advocates across the Metroplex are urging the population to get to a shelter during extreme temperatures.
Many shelters have adjusted their rules and are allowing residents to stay longer during the frigid weather.
