Dallas Police Arrest Suspected Serial Package Thief

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A woman accused of going on an alleged package-theft three throughout Northeast Dallas neighborhoods has been arrested.

The Dallas Police Department’s Senior Corporal DeMarquis Black said investigators received a tip about the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Kelli Russell, and officers pulled her over Thursday afternoon in the 4900 block of Lancaster Road for multiple traffic violations.

After executive a search warrant, detectives searched her home and found a large amount of stolen packages.

“Most of the offenses had not been reported. So, detectives are currently in the process of tracking down the victims and determining the value of the stolen property,” said Black.

Package theft has become a common crime but the instances spike dramatically around the holidays.

Black said there are numerous behaviors residents can adopt to safeguard their items.

“If you live in an apartment complex, have it delivered to the leasing office. If you have neighbors that you trust, let them know and have them be on the lookout. There are these ring devices now, so there’s usually eyes somewhere,” he said.

Black said in the age of technology and social media, would-be package thieves should know they’re easier to catch.

“People out there, if you’re doing this, you know you didn’t pay for that stuff. So don’t do it…okay,” he said.

Once the amounts of the stolen goods have been stolen, the department said the appropriate charges against Russell will be filed.
