Dallas/Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – A 28-Yyear old DWI suspect demolished his truck while trying to get away from Carrollton police last night.
Rueben Prado Vargas, who was arrested Wednesday morning had crashed into an occupied Dallas police cruiser, injuring the officer inside during the chase, then ran away on foot.
Police said Vargas, armed with a knife, is suspected of trying to carjack another driver after ramming into the cruiser.
The ordeal began when Vargas refused to pull over for Carrollton police on I-35E and Belt Line, just before 8:30 pm. Investigators said Vargas then took off at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The police officer in the wrecked vehicle was treated and released from Parkland Hospital with minor injuries. He was on-duty and parked at a construction site on the highway.
