Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dickies Arena in Fort Worth will host the American Athletic Conference Tournament for three years, starting in March of 2020. The arena is under construction now and should be complete in November of 2019.
“This was a great win for us,” says Matt Homan, the president of Multipurpose Arena Fort Worth. “We’ve been looking for these marquee events we could bring into the facility now, and winning the American tournament we felt was a great fit for us.”
The Ft. Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau worked with the arena organization to bid for the tournament. Homan says the arena is bidding for events now because marquee events often book several years ahead of time.
“Right now, it’s education with concerts, promoters and agents, teaching them about Ft. Worth, that this market is sustainable, the 14th largest city in the United States and growing very fast,” he says.
Dickies Arena is scheduled to host the first and second round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 2022 and the NCAA woman’s gymnastics championships in 2020 through 2022.
