Fort Worth Teachers Head Back to Work

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF News) – Teachers in Fort Worth gathered to begin the 2017-2018 school year Monday morning. Students return to class next Monday.

Jamie Casap, Google’s “education evangelist,” spoke at the Fort Worth Independent School District’s convocation.

“We need to help our kids take information and convert it into real intelligence,” Casap said. “The good news is I’m starting to see this happen all over the world. We’re starting to see these collaborative learning models where kids are working together, building things together.”

Casap says schools are shifting curriculum from simply telling kids to memorize important facts to helping them solve problems.

“Together we’re going to create a better product, a better idea, a better strategy, but we need real cooperation, the ability to listen and ask questions,” he said.

Casap says a focus on collaborative learning will help kids work together, saying schools now are preparing kids for jobs that do not exist, yet.
