I can never seem to get it all done and I bet most people can relate. Working full-time, spending time with loved ones, taking care of a household, running errands, planning meals, getting exercise, oh and don’t forget sleeping.
That may sound ridiculous but sometimes, I do. It seems when there is an overwhelming number of tasks to complete in a day, that sleep is last on the list but is probably one of the most important. I’ll often say, “If only I could get away without sleeping, I’d be able to get everything done.” That’s just not the case.
I had a job for two years that required me to work midnight-8am. For those two years, I only slept 6 days a week. On Sundays when I had to be at work at midnight, there was no way I could fall asleep for several hours in the afternoon, so I would stay up until work time. A nap after work would mess me up for getting to bed on time, so that meant one day a week without sleep. There’s no telling the toll that took on my body.
Also don’t forget the precious time spent sitting in traffic, commuting to the places you’re expected to be, and even the seconds for casual pleasantries that turn into minutes or longer. I overhear people talking about their favorite TV shows and I’ll get envious and think “How do you have the time?” Maybe I’m a poor time manager.
I have trouble getting it all done and I don’t even have any children yet. How do parents manage it?! I can only imagine everything you do for yourself having to be done for another human being. Baths, meals, errands, trips to the doctor…SERIOUSLY – how do they do it? Here’s to hoping I find a way to stretch the hours in the day.
