DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Dallas Love Field is now the most recent airport to unveil eye and fingerprint-scanning technology to bypass long check-in lines.
The airport is rolling out CLEAR scanners today, which is a TSA-approved system that stores your biometrics. That way, every time you travel, you potentially don’t have to wait in long lines and show your ID to get through security.
“The whole process [of scanning your eyes and fingerprint] takes less than half a second,” said CLEAR’s David Cohen. “Then you go straight into physical screening.”
Cohen says the technology can save people as much as an hour or more at the airport.
“Having that consistent fast experience to them — an extra hour for a meeting or an extra hour to hang out with their family before going to the airport — that’s really meaningful,” Cohen said.
However, it is not free. To sign up for CLEAR, it costs roughly $15 a month. You’ll also need to do what Cohen calls a five-minute registration at the airport where they ask you questions to verify your identity. The registration, though, is a one-time process.
“That process takes five minutes or less,” Cohen said of registering. “And once you’re in the CLEAR system, you can use it at the airport or at a stadium near you immediately.”
Love Field is the 24th airport in the U.S to have CLEAR scanners. Cohen said they hope to expand them to stadium and other venues that require proof of identity.
