Plano (WBAP/KLIF) – Plano Attorney and Democrat Sam Johnson is hoping to replace longtime 3rd District Republican Congressman Sam Johnson when the 89-year-old retires in 2018. Johnson thinks name recognition could help him if he makes it to the general election, but could hurt him in the Democratic primary. The Democrat told KLIF’s ‘Dave and Amy’, there are many people who are weary of the Johnson name right now. He says he has a lot of work to do to convince Collin County Democrats the name is the same, but the policies are very different. Johnson says healthcare, energy and the environment are his top three issues. Currently, there are three Democrats and one Republican running for the seat.
