FORT WORTH – (WBAP/KLIF) – Multiple rounds of severe storms are expected through Saturday morning, with all hazards possible each time, and a threat for flash flooding is expected to materialize later in the week.
Overview
Today: A broken line of showers and thunderstorms will move from west to east across the region today.
The severe threat is relatively low this morning, with isolated large hail being the main threat.
Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats this afternoon, but an isolated tornado or two can’t be ruled out as thunderstorms move east of I-35.
The threat for severe storms is greatest across eastern North Texas.
Overnight Tonight (Wed Night – Thurs Morning): Another round of strong to severe storms is expected as a stalled frontal boundary moves north across the region.
Very large hail and damaging winds will be the main hazards with storms overnight tonight – Thursday morning.
IF storms Thursday morning become surface-based near the front near the Red River, a tornado threat may materialize.
For the remainder of the week, the location of meandering boundaries and coverage and location of storms each day may impact the coverage and location of storms the next day. We’ll continue to refine the details of the severe weather threats each day, but here’s the latest overall trends and thinking. More exact timing for each of these time periods will be improved over the next few days:
Thursday: Ongoing morning storms mainly north of I-20, with a low chance (20-30%) for isolated, non-severe showers and storms across the region the rest of the day.
Overnight Thursday Night – Friday: The next round of severe storms will move across the region from west to east. All modes of severe weather will be possible.
Friday Night – Saturday: (Hopefully) our final round of severe storms, generally moving from west to east, with all modes of severe weather again possible.
Multiple rounds of heavy rain will also increase the threat for flash flooding, especially Thursday through Saturday.
