Mesquite ISD Teacher Arrested, Accused of Grooming Teenage Student

MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A North Texas teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student.

Balch Springs police said 54-year-old Sergio Gonzalez was a former coach at A.C. new middle school in Mesquite ISD.

The district said they placed Gonzalez on leave on August 20 after learning of the allegations and he resigned shortly after.

According to Wednesday news release, Mesquite ISD officials alerted the police about suspicions of Gonzalez’ alleged relationship with the young girl.

Officers arrested Gonzalez at his home on Wednesday following a joint investigation involving Balch Springs police, the Texas Department of Public Safety Task Force and Forney police.

He’s charged with felony child grooming, a third-degree felony.

Mesquite ISD said Gonzalez was hired by the district in 2004.

“Our commitment is to provide a nurturing environment where every student feels safe, respected, and empowered to pursue excellence,” the school district officials said. “Anything less than that is unacceptable.”
