Boy Scouts of America Trust to Auction Rare Art to Compensate Sexual Abuse Survivors

IRVING (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Boy Scouts of America’s settlement trust is selling four Norman Rockwell paintings as part of a collection at Heritage Auctions in Dallas next month as part of the effort to compensate more than 64,000 sex abuse survivors.

Each painting is valued at more than $100,000.

The Irving-based organization filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2020 after a historic settlement ruling and a judge valued the organization’s assets at $2.4 billion in 2022 as part of a reorganization plan.

BSA Settlement Fund Trustee Barbara Houser said in addition to that, there are over 3,000 insurance policies are assigned to the trust. She’s had to sue 91 companies to collect.

“Those insurance assets that have not yet been settled are valued at somewhere between 4 and 4.1 billion dollars,” she said.

Houser added that they’ll have to go to trial to recoup that money, which could take years.

“The good news is already we have distributed over $41 million to survivors of sexual abuse,” she said.
