CHICAGO (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Texas delegation cast its 273 votes to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic residential candidate in Chicago Tuesday night.
Vice President Kamala Harris ceremoniously accepted it via live stream as she campaigned in Milwaukee.
There were a number of high profile Texans who made an appearance during the roll call on day two of the Democratic National Convention.
Dallas mother Kate Cox was among the group. She gained national attention after she had to leave Texas to get an abortion after doctors told her the child would not survive and her life was in jeopardy.
“There’s nothing pro-family about abortion bans. There’s nothing pro-life about letting women suffer and even die,” she said.
Cox then made a surprise announcement.
“Because I found a way to access to abortion care, I am pregnant again. The baby is due in January just in time to see Kamala Harris become the next president of the United States,” she said.
After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Texas’ abortion ban kicked in.
Texas’ republican leaders argue there are exceptions to save the mother’s life. However, many doctors aren’t performing the procedure due to fear of legal retribution.
The late former Governor Ann Richard’s daughter, Cecile Richards, also spoke during the roll call.
The second day of the DNC wrapped up with speeches from former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, Illinois Governor JB. Pritzker and First Gentlemen Dough Emhoff.
Democrats are using the convention to make their case to American voters and present their vision for the future ahead of the November 5 presidential election.
