ROUND ROCK (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A North Texas woman is among the victims of a deadly mass shooting at a Juneteenth event in Round Rock over the weekend.
Round Rock police said shots erupted at the Old Settlers Park just before 11 p.m. Saturday after an altercation between two groups.
Lyndsey Vicknair, an attorney, wife and mother of three was one of two innocent bystanders that were killed. Fourteen others were injured.
Speaking at a Monday afternoon press conference, Lyndsey’s husband Kevin Vicknair fought back tears and said his wife’s killer took something from his family that can never be replaced.
“They took something that God gave me to be responsible for and protect. They took a mother who loved her family, her kids, she loved me, her community,” he said.
Although originally from DFW, the couple had been raising their children in the quiet city about 19 miles north of Austin.
A private wake is behind held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Mansfield Friday night and a Celebration of Life Service will take place there on Saturday.
Lyndsey’s loved ones have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help the family.
“Lyndsey’s life was marked by her contagious smile, thoughtfulness, and her unwavering willingness to help others. Her absence is felt deeply by all who knew her,” said the GoFundMe statement.
Round Rock police have not made any arrests but have identified a suspect. He’s black, 19 to 20 years old, 5’7″ with a thin build and short dreadlocks.
At a Sunday press conference, Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks urged the suspect to come forward.
“Turn yourself in,” he said. “If you’re man enough to carry a gun and pull the trigger, be man enough to step up. Turn yourself in.”
Authorities have set up an online portal for witnesses or tipsters to submit information.
