Suspect Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff with Dallas Police and SWAT Near SMU

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A suspect is in custody after an hours-long standoff involving Dallas Police and SWAT ended Thursday morning.

It happened at an apartment complex on Skillman street near the Southern Methodist University campus.

First responders initially arrived at the scene around 12:30 a.m. in what investigators said started as a domestic dispute.

Police said the man barricaded himself in a unit, fired shots inside and was yelling at officers.

This neighbor watched as the SWAT Team members busted through the man’s door.

“Towards the end around like 7 a.m. there was a couple of big bangs and he came out and surrendered himself. He laid on the ground and they took him away. He was like screaming at the cops and they took him away in the ambulance,” he said.

No one was injured. Police said the situation had been compounded by the man’s mental health issues.

Residents in the nearby area had been evacuated.
