DENTON COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Denton County residents impacted by the deadly May 25 tornadoes and the subsequent severe storms can apply for local and federal assistance under one roof.
The Federal and Emergency Management Agency and the Denton County Office of Emergency Management have opened resource centers at Butterfield Elementary school in Sanger.
The facility will also host nonprofits in the school’s gymnasium.
United Way of Denton County CEO Gary Henderson said they’re still meeting victims’ resource needs, which have reached a critical point for some.
“We really feel like those efforts are making good progress…with the financial support that those victims can really only take care of with money,” he said.
Residents will be able to meet with FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration officials to help them apply for assistance and emergency loans.
The centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday as well as 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The American Red Cross, Salvation Army and Legal Aid are among the nonprofits that will be available at the resource center.
The United Way Denton County set up a disaster relief donation fund which has collected over $44,000 to cover financial aid not covered by FEMA or TDEM iSTAT.
The fund allocates up to $1,500 per household to cover costs of necessary items like medication that may have been damaged by the tornadoes.
