ARLINGTON – Abortion pills are available to Texas women by mail, courtesy of “shield laws” in six states around the nation, and a pro-choice abortion group wants women to know it. This weekend, the group Mayday Health hired a small plane to tow a banner above Globe Life Stadium during a Texas Rangers game, alerting women abortion pills are available by mail.
Pro-choice groups in six states use “shield laws” to get around the Texas law that bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. Mayday Health says it wants women in Texas to have access to pregnancy termination otherwise not medically available.
Texas Alliance for Life says it’s disappointed by what it sees as a circumventing of state laws to allow abortion in ways other than physical, formerly available in the Lone Star State.
Shield laws protect shippers from prosecution in Texas, and other states abortion is deemed illegal.
