Baylor University is retiring Brittney Griner’s jersey.
The ceremony took place before the Baylor vs Texas Tech women’s basketball game that happened Sunday.
Griner played with the Bears from 2009 to 2013, where she led her team to a perfect 40-0 national championship season during her junior year.
She later went on to be the selected by the Phoenix Mercury as the number one pick in the WNBA draft.
Her number 42 jersey being retired makes her the seventh women’s basketball player in Baylor history to receive such an honor. She joins former teammates Odyssey Sims and Melissa Jones in this exclusive club.
