Transformative Justice Coalition and Voting Rights Alliance Talk Black Soldiers in the Civil War

The Transformative Justice Coalition and the Voting Rights Alliance is working to educate people during this Black History Month.

They’re specifically focusing on Black soldier’s contributions to the Civil War.

“Frederick Douglass’ very first meeting with Abraham Lincoln was because of fighting for equal pay and rank for African-Americans,” Author of the Voting Rights Alliance’s Black History Series, Caitlyn Arnwine, said. “That was his very first meeting with Abraham Lincoln.”

Arnwine adds that in addition to fighting for equal pay, Black soldiers also made tremendous strides in helping the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments come to fruition.
