Ford is recalling nearly 1.9 million Explorer SUV’s nationwide because of loose clips that may detach, causing body parts to fly off at highway speeds. WBAP’s Car Pro Show host Jerry Reynolds suggests safety is not at high risk with this issue, but suggests Explorer owners in recalled units; 2011-2019 models, to call a Ford dealer to get on a list for the fix when it becomes available.
Reynolds says the Explorer part that could become detached is small, lightweight, and not likely to cause damage to another vehicle beyond prompting surprise from a driver behind or alongside these vehicles.
Reynolds notes the part is a covering; usually lightweight chrome, but sometimes rubber, that is seen around a windshield, covering, for cosmetic reasons, what physically holds a windshield in place. Although Reynolds is not concerned about safety issues with this recall, he suggests drivers call and request to get on a “fix list” so they will be among the first called for an appointment when the fix is determined and available to them.
Reynolds does stress drivers should immediately take action and remedy issues with any recall or issue noticed with regard to fire, sudden acceleration, brakes or steering on any vehicle.
