Department of Homeland Security Demands Texas Account for Federal Access to Eagle Pass Park.

WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security adds it’s voice to Border Patrol demands for full access to an Eagle Pass park on the Rio Grande, fenced off and guarded by the Texas military.

Texas has fenced off the area of Shelby Park, barring Border Patrol agents from entering. DHS now wants full accounting from Texas on what areas of the nearly 50-acre park are and are not accessible by federal agents and the public.

The matter, under increasing scrutiny and concern after the Border Patrol reported the Texas Military barred Border Patrol agents from helping to locate and rescue migrants reported as drowning in the Rio Grande. The agents were barred from entering the quick-access area.

Later, three migrants were found dead – a woman, and an 8 and 10 year old child drowned.
