(WBAP/KLIF) — Dallas’ largest police association elects a new president.
25-year veteran officer Jaime Castro has been elected president of the Dallas Police Association (DPA). Castro replaces former DPA President Mike Mata who says the organization is fortunate to have Castro. Mata also says Castro is a highly decorated officer who has received four awards and 75 commendations for his professionalism, volunteer work and crime fighting expertise.
Castro began as a Dallas police officer in 1998 and has served on the DPA Executive Board since 2016.

DALLAS, TX – JANUARY 16, 2024 – With the retirement of Dallas Police Association (DPA) President Mike Mata, the members of the DPA last week swore in longtime police officer Jaime Castro as their new President.
Castro joined the Dallas Police Department in 1998 and over the course of his 25-year career has established himself as one of our community’s strongest advocates for protecting families and building relationships in our neighborhoods.
A highly decorated member of the Dallas police department, Officer Castro has received four awards and 75 commendations for his professionalism, volunteer work and crime fighting expertise.
Officer Castro is a well-known advocate for safe neighborhoods and is a regular contributor to local media reports regarding law enforcement issues, often times challenging the anti-police zealots that seek to defund or reduce funding for the Dallas police Department. He also spoke with international media in the days after the tragic 2016 downtown Dallas ambush attack on police officers.
He has served on the Executive Board of the Dallas Police Association since 2016. where he represented the Board as its first Latino Community Liaison, organizes Pancho Pack donations and volunteers with the Assist The Officer Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps the families of officers killed or injured in the line of duty. He was recently inducted to the Pro Football’s Ultimate Fan Association at the NFL Hall Of Fame and is a Jiu-jitsu black belt.

Founded in 1959, the Dallas Police Association is the oldest, largest, and most diverse police employee organization in North Texas.
