(WBAP/KLIF) — An aggressive crime reduction plan is paying dividends in the City of Dallas.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia reports aggravated assault is down 18% (or by more than 1,300), while gun crimes dropped by 20%. He reports that overall violent crime is down more than 13% for 2023. Garcia was hired as chief in 2021 when he introduced a violent crime reduction plan which has reduced incidents each year since. The city’s 30th police chief says the department’s Violent Crime Reduction Plan is working. For each year since being hired in 2021.
The only area of concern was that Dallas murders totaled 246 for 2023, 32 more than the previous year.
