Eight Granbury Middle School Students Sickened; ER Doc Reportedly Blames Fentanyl

GRANBURY – (WBAP/KLIF)- Eight students of Granbury Middle School Tuesday were sickened after eating candy reportedly brought to school by a classmate. Four were taken by first responders to area hospitals; the rest were taken to medical assistance by parents. At least one emergency room doctor is reportedly to have told one parent he believes the symptoms the children experienced may have been caused by fenta

“I felt really dizzy. My heart was going really fast. I felt like I was really sick”, one child reported. The candy in question is reported to have looked like Twizzlers, or long twisted braids of licorice candy. One of the children reported it tasted like toothpaste. At least one child is believed to have passed out. Another child is reported as having told authorities the child sharing what was believed to have been candy said it was a gift from her grandmother.

Testing is underway to determine what may have sickened the children, and if it was indeed the powerful opiod drug fentanyl; blamed for many deaths nationwide. A similar case has been reported in Virginia this week – two people have been arrested and charged after seven Virginia elementary students ate gummy bears from a plastic baggie that later tested positive for the potentially deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl, according to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office.
