The Ancient Woolly Mammoth Being Created Again in Dallas

A Dallas company is working to “de-extinct” or bring back the woolly mammoth, last believed alive and roaming the plant four thousand years ago.

Colossal Biosciences, based out of Deep Elm or “Deep Ellum” in Dallas, is using DNA from Asian elephants and the same recovered from frozen woolly mammoths found in the Arctic.

Matt James with the company says the due date is expected to be 2028; work is now underway to create artificial wombs to grow a woolly mammoth calf.

Scientists say restoring a mammoth ecosystem can preserve frozen ground and slow the release of greenhouse gases.
