DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Jerry Jones says LB Vander Esch is out for the rest of the season and his career is in question after an injury to his neck in the October 8th game against the San Fransisco 49ers. Jones calls it “a significant loss”, but notes the team was waiting to see what the prognosis was before wishing the defense player well. “[Vander Esch is} an integral part of that defense out there. We just wish him well, and just the nature of his potential injury here casues me to really think longer term and beyond what it means for next week or beyond what it means for next month. It has everything to do with what’s best in his interest.”
Vander Esch was injured in a play in which he was pushed from behind, jamming his neck. Through five games this season, the linebacker has racked up 35 tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback pressures and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Vander Esch was drafted from Boise State in the first round of the NFL 2018 Draft despite missing half of the 2016 season with a pinched nerve in his neck. He missed seven games in 2019 and six more in 2020, followed by neck surgery to fix nerve issues.
