Texas Employment Growth Shatters Records

(WBAP/KLIF) — Texas has broken employment records for two years straight. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) released September numbers for the state’s job market, which shatters previous records.

The TWC report indicated that Texas added almost 436,000 jobs last month, a full percentage point higher that the rest of the nation. Total non-farm jobs increased by more than 61,000 in September, pushing the total employment number to more than 14-million. TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel says the state’s seasonally adjusted civilian labor force also surpassed 15.1 million for the first time.

The TWC’s Marianna Vega says nine major Texas industries added jobs over the last month.

Trade, Transportation & Utilities added 15,200 jobs, Professional & Business Services jumped by 14,900, Private Education & Health Services added 13,800 positions, while Manufacturing grew by 8,000 new positions. In all, the total increase to more than 61,000 new jobs in the Lone Star State.

Meanwhile, unemployment remained steady at 4.1%, with the lowest rate in Midland at 2.5%.
