WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – House Majority Leader Steve Scalise is working to lock up enough support to become the next Speaker of the House one day after eight House republicans joined democrats in ousting Congressman Kevin McCarthy from the job.
There are multiple media reports Wednesday that Scalise, who was second in leadership behind McCarthy, wants to replace the ousted Speaker.
Scalise joins Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio in seeking the position which was held by McCarthy until Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida announced a motion to vacate.
In a dramatic vote Tuesday, eight republican lawmakers joined all democrats to remove McCarthy.
Both Scalise and Jordan joined the vast majority of republicans to keep McCarthy as Speaker.
