Reward for Information Leading to Arrest of Driver Involved in Hit-and-Run that Killed Arlington Police Officer Increased

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver involved in a hit-and-run that killed an Arlington police officer has been increased to $20,000.

The Arlington Police Department announced Tuesday that Oak Farms Dairy added $15,000 to the $5,000 offered by Crime Stoppers for information in Officer Darrin McMichael’s death.

He lost his life while riding his motorcycle on his way to work along I-20 in Dallas last Thursday. The 24-year veteran officer ran into a vehicle in front of him, lost control and fell off his bike and was then hit by another car that did not stop.

Officer McMichael’s wife, who is also an Arlington police officer, was driving behind him when the tragedy occurred.

His colleague Officer William Bill said the loss leaves a heavy void within the department.

“Darrin was so much more than just a uniform…he was a cowboy…a motorcycle enthusiast…and a leader,” he said.

Investigators are asking businesses and truck companies if they have any video or dash cam footage of I-20 between highway 175 and I-45 from 6:05 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21.

The suspect’s vehicle is dark-colored sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office at 214-749-8641 or call North Texas Crime Stoppers at 877-373-8477.

Funeral services will take place at Cross Christian Church in Grand Prairie on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Anyone who would like to make a donation can do so here. In addition to his wife, Officer McMichael leaves behind two daughters.
