Image shows that moment Dallas Police Officer Derek Williams realized that he had been hit. His bullet-proof vest saved him.
Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police released dash camera video showing the moment officers saw a gunman shooting into a truck on Scyene road.
Police say officers turned into a nearby business parking lot with duty weapons drawn when suspect, identified as Juan Vicente Zavala Lopez fired several times striking an officer.
That officer, Derek Williams, who can be heard saying, “I’m hit. I’m hit,” was was saved by his bullet proof vest. can be seen leaning back inside the door of a squad car after being hit.
After officers exchanged gunfire, the video shows officers chased the suspect to Second Avenue, where police say Zavala Lopez turned his truck around and fired more shots at officers.
The suspect was eventually tracked to a house in Lewisville where he was heard pleading for police to kill him.
Zavala Lopez who was eventually captured by Dallas SWAT,is an illegal immigrant had been deported nine times, according to police.
