North Texas (WBAP/IKLIF) – Carrollton fire officials says a transformer and tree caught fire at and behind fire station #4 on Rosemeade Parkway near Kelly Blvd. around 9:20 last night.
WFAA-TV says that officials confirmed that the fire had spread to the fire station.
Residents in the area and others posted multiple photos of the large blaze that could be seen for miles.
The fire was put out around 10:20PM. Oncor also responded to the scene. No one was hurt.
And, amid a burn ban in Kaufman County, a welding accident sparked a barn fire that killed ten horses.
Kaufman County Fire Marshal Paul Ayers told WFAA-TV that a barn fire housing the horses started when welding outside the building sparked highly flammable spray insulation inside. Three fire crews battled the blaze. The burn ban would have required a permit for the welding project. It’s unclear whether or not the owners obtained one. Ayers told the station that most fires of that nature are preventable.
Julissa Martinez and her husband raised and trained the horses at the barn southeast of Crandall where the fire spread fast. “They couldn’t get out and there was nothing we could do about it,” Mrs. Martinez told the station.
In White Settlement over the weekend, fire officials believe that a cigarette butt tossed into a pile of leaves may have sparked a blaze that destroyed a house in the 300 block of Mirike. No one was inside at the time. Two people and their pets were evacuated from a neighboring home.
