Woman Connected to Vanessa Guillen’s Murder Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison

WACO (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The woman who helped dispose of the body of Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen in 2020 was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Monday.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 25-year-old Cecily Aguilar pleaded guilty last year to one count of accessory to murder and three counts of false representation or making a false statement.

Prosecutors said Army Specialist Aaron Robinson, the suspect accused of killing Guillen, told Aguilar about the murder which happened on the base, now known as Fort Cavazos.

Aguilar helped destroy Giullen’s body near Killen in Bell County and lied to police.

Robinson shot and killed himself when confronted by officers on July 1, 2020, the same day Guillen’s remains were found in a wooded area.

Guillen’s family said she was sexually harassed at Fort Hood and they filed a $35 million lawsuit against the federal government.

In the wake of Guillen’s death, a investigation into the U.S. military led to changes about how women can report sexual harassment while enlisted.

Her killing also sparked a social media movement among former and active service members who came forward about their experiences on military bases nationwide using the hashtag #IAmVanessaGuillen.
